Acts 13: 4-12

On Cyprus

The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper.

They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus, who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God. But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith. Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, 10 “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? 11 Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind for a time, not even able to see the light of the sun.”

Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand. 12 When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.

Good morning, this commentary stuck out for me today- i. We should not be surprised or shaken by opposition. “Wherever there is likely to be great success, the open door and the opposing adversaries will both be found. If there are no adversaries, you may fear that there will be no success. A boy cannot get his kite up without wind, nor without a wind which drives against his kite.” (Spurgeon) We realized our trip to Paso and Folsom was too much for Ron so we are going to Paso for just 2 days (June 9-10) then Travis & family… Read more »

VS 8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so his name is translated) withstood them,… i. We should not be surprised or shaken by opposition. “Wherever there is likely to be great success, the open door and the opposing adversaries will both be found. If there are no adversaries, you may fear that there will be no success. A boy cannot get his kite up without wind, nor without a wind which drives against his kite.” (Spurgeon) Yesterday I was walking the dogs and talking with God (sometimes, I get so lost in thought that my neighbors probably think I’m a… Read more »

my Precious Michele Belle, I totally understand where You are coming from!! For so long Lloyd and I believed we had it pressed upon our hearts, by the Lord, for us to go to Texas!! It is a mind boggler on how it turned out!! Even though we would both prefer to be living in Vista, we see clearly why we needed to be back here!! We seriously would have lost a largest asset to decay and ruin!! But GOD!!! I guess what I am trying to say is things have not turned out how I would have thought they… Read more »

Michele, I might add, I can see so many good things, why, for at least a while that You are better off where You are!! At least for a time!!! Is it really important that we are doing what we planned on doing?? Or is it more important that we are where the LORD wants us to be, doing what HE wants us to do?? I know for me it’s the latter!! The Lord has this Sweet!! It will be okay!! Because of HIM!!!?❌?❌

I thought 2 thing while reading tonight!! 1. with these three guy’s working together I think this would have been one very exciting missions trip to have been a part of!!! 2. Facing opposition, things have been a challenge for us at this new Church!! I have experienced difficulties that I have never felt before in 42 years of being a Christian!!! It was very interesting when Paula was talking about VBS!! This coming Tuesday our VBS is starting!! Lloyd and I are in charge of the food!!
