Colossians 2: 16-23

Freedom From Human Rules

16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. 19 They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

20 Since you died with Christ to the elemental spiritual forces of this world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its rules: 21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.

v15 (from yesterday) 15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. v16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you… In my Bible, I have a handwritten note to myself. It says, ” what ‘they’ think of me is none of my business. Deeper than that is the cross. I get to hold it, the cross, between me and “them”. It’s up to me, not them. I can’t stop people from judging me. This is something so deep in my soul that is being healed by the Word.… Read more »

Yes, I love the quote, ” you cannot control others but you can control how you react to them” in fact the only control I have is over my own actions/reactions in life. 😉

I am so Proud of You for all the work You have done seeking healing!! When I look at You I see a strong Godly woman that is full of wisdom, with a strong heart digging to know God in a deeper way!! How I see You doesn’t matter!! Like You said it’s Your own opinion of Yourself is all that counts!! We cannot allow ourselves the burden of trying to live up to others expectations… Read more »

We have talked about legalism a lot, all had lived with it in our back grounds and some of it came with us 😉 I like this little comment at the end of the commentary:
“ii. Self-imposed religion is man reaching to God, trying to justify himself by keeping a list of rules. Christianity is God reaching down to man in love through Christ.’
Blessings Sisters 🙂

Legalism has been a hot topic in our household for the last few weeks!! With Lloyd’s correspondence with our Jewish friend as well as how we view our own lives!! Our study here with the added information in our commentary have really helped me see the difference between living by the law or living our lives under the grace and mercy of what Jesus did for us on the cross!! Everytime we get into the truck ( that is our best place to talk) as well as sharing Scripture at home with each other the impossibility of being able to… Read more »

Also, I just read my other devotional from yesterday. Boom. His Timing <3 BE DEAF TO THE CRY OF THE CROWD from On the Highroad of Surrender Frances Roberts Then he passing through the midst of them, went his way. Luke 4:30 The moment you set your spiritual eye upon the goal I have given you, the bondage of people is broken. you will be able, as Jesus was, to pass through the midst of them and be freed to be about your Father's business. Do not allow yourself to be trapped by the multitude. Your own higher vision will… Read more »
