Galatians 5: 13-25

Life by the Spirit

13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh[fn]; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”[fn] 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[fn] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.

… 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. To me, this typically means the person won’t go to Heaven. And is pretty confusing because I believe my salvation is secure once I believe. What if it simply means they (we) will not inherit (or be walking in) the love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control that is given when we believe. When we as Christians are weak and fall into sin, until we repent, these things… Read more »

Michele I think You are pretty correct!! If we are not walking in the Spirit we are not going to possess the traits of the Spirit!! Not one of us is perfect!!! That’s why we so desperately need the Grace of Jesus in our lives!!! I think what Jesus wants from us is that we just keep trying!!! Tonight we to our friends Ray and Wilma’s Church and helped with their Harvest Festival!! They had games and booths full of tons of fun and more candy then I have ever seen!! Our booth was storytelling!! Wilma and Ray decorated our… Read more »

Sounds like a great Halloween! And I agree we do lose our peace and the rest when we are in unrepentant sin- so recognize it and confess it pronto 🙂 No holding on to the yucky stuff- right? love you xoxo

We all go through seasons of failing and refining but our salvation is NOT at stake, it is not about what we do but about what HE did. I believe with all my heart that once we come into His kingdom even the bad choices we make cannot separate us from His love, “nothing can snatch us out of His hand” Hallelujah !! love you sis xoxo

17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[fn] you want. So for all our lives we will be in conflict to do what is right, our natural sin nature wants to rule, but it does get easier the more we practice! Do either of you remember the Beth More study where we learned to do hand signs with this verse to memorize it? Have to admit I did it then cut can’t remember… Read more »
