John 8: 12-20

Dispute Over Jesus’ Testimony
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
13 The Pharisees challenged him, “Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid.”
14 Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going. 15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16 But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me. 17 In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two witnesses is true. 18 I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.”
19 Then they asked him, “Where is your father?”
“You do not know me or my Father,” Jesus replied. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.” 20 He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.

So, does the Father judge through Jesus?

John 5:23 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father.

Thoughts?

15 You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one. 16 But if I do judge, my decisions are true, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.

Seems contrasting to me and I would love to see what you all think.

I think Jesus meant that He didnt jugde anyone THEN but He will be the final judge when He returns- of course He snd the Father r one so not sure we can divide them as judges?
Just my thoughts?

Great point, Paula. I wonder, too, if the definition of the word needs to be considered. Someday, I would love to do a word study throughout the Bible. I know some people do that with Strong’s… I’ve never been brave enough!

Great insights Michele and Paula!! Michele You are much braver then you realize!!! What I got out of it, is that JESUS didn’t come here to pass judgement on man, but to rescue us from the gates of hell!! But HE is the one with the authority to judge!! The Pharisees are judging JESUS, and they are the ones with out authority!! I think JESUS is saying that HE didn’t come to judge, but if HE decided to judge HE has the full authority, because HE has HIS FATHERS authority!! What more could HE need!!! I got a huge kick… Read more »
