Acts 7:54-60

The Stoning of Stephen

54 When the members of the Sanhedrin heard this, they were furious and gnashed their teeth at him. 55 But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, looked up to heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. 56 “Look,” he said, “I see heaven open and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.”

57 At this they covered their ears and, yelling at the top of their voices, they all rushed at him, 58 dragged him out of the city and began to stone him. Meanwhile, the witnesses laid their coats at the feet of a young man named Saul.

59 While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep.

The initial response reminds me of what it is like when those of us with dark truths, hear THE truth. Call it a demon. Call it our own sin. Call it our own self will. Any and all of those things don’t want to change. And the one who brings the truth, speaks the truth, stands bold enough to keep standing in truth, THAT person gets the attack.

It was Christ. And here it is Stephen.

Full of the Holy Spirit he looked into the heavens and saw the glory of God- I keep tearing up when I read 55-56. In the middle of a horrible , scary situation- that overwhelming peace. Those are the most precious moments, I have only had a tiny taste of feeling His overwhelming peace in the storm and I will never forget the feeling. As they took me in for my big Cancer Surgery I was completely enveloped in His Love and peace. Other times I’m a scared , anxious mess but when really facing my mortality He gave me… Read more »

In the section on ‘Christ standing’ the speculation is perhaps standing with Steven, standing to plead his case before God the Father, or giving him a standing ovation- reminded me of all of us ‘standing with Ron Ohst’ as he recovers from his stroke… Jesus’ warning: i. It is a dangerous thing to be religious apart from a real relationship with Jesus Christ. This fulfills what Jesus warned about in John 16:2-3: Yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. And these things they will do to you because they have not… Read more »

Paula Perfect description using how we all stand with Ron Praying for him and his family( which is our own family) to make a full recovery!! That last paragraph that you copied reminded me about the impact of the story of the life of Corrie Ten Boom!! We were one month old baby Christian’s and the same friend that had invited us to Church to begin with, invited us to see the movie “The Hiding Place!” the story of Corrie and her family, Papa and Betsy and all the people that put their lives on the line to serve the… Read more »

Hello Ladies that I love!! I have to tell you a story!! When I was reading the commentary and it said they came a Stephen with such force, it was the same word as when the swine fill with the demons ran with force into the sea and drowned!!! Last May, the first time we all travelled to Michigan to see Lloyd’s Mom, all of Lloyd’s family lives back there on big farms!! We were parked in the little travel trailer in the girl cousins yard!! Right past there in a huge barn and their pastures that hold I think… Read more »

Another perfect story from you Bonnie! It is so easy to see what you are describing and it’s so applicable to our study. I may have gone right over the force of what was done to him.

We are gonna get a book out of you soon.
I will help you do it.
So glad we get to enjoy them here!
