Abandoned “Not”
This picture reminds me of the "Footprints in The Sand" poem. The poem talks about a person who sees two sets of footprints through most of life as Jesus walks side-by-side with them. But, there are moments when this person is facing heartache, sorrow, feeling hurt, or even physical pain. It's in those moments when there is only one set of footprints. The writer poses this question, "Jesus, when life is going good I noticed two sets of footprints, but, when things aren't going good, it seems as though you abandoned me". There is only one set of footprints during those moments. Jesus says "My child, I have never, nor will I ever, abandon you. It is in those moments when you were hurting that I carried you.”
Jesus has carried me through a car accident with multiple injuries, depression and through my parents divorce. I don't know if you have ever felt abandoned by a friend or a parent or what you have been through. But my friend, Jesus, will never abandon you or leave you. Even in your darkest valley, He is there. In Psalm 27:10, the Psalmist writes "Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me".
Jesus has carried me through many trials in my life. I know that He will carry you too.
We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair.~ 2 Corinthians 4:8 NLT
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. ~Isaiah 41:10 NLT
Footprints In The Sand
One night I dreamed a dream.
As I was walking along the beach with my Lord.
Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life.
For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand,
One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.
I noticed that at many times along the path of my life,
especially at the very lowest and saddest times,
there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it
"Lord, you said once I decided to follow you,
You'd walk with me all the way.
But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you
Never, ever, during your trials and testings.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."
