God’s Armor
In Jeremiah 46:3-4 (WEB), Jeremiah is telling the men to “prepare the buckler and shields, and advance into battle! He tells them to harness their horses, and mount their stallions. He says to "take your positions". But when it came down to it, the men cowardly turned and ran the other way. Maybe because they knew defeat was inevitable.
In Psalms 35:2 (NLT) David asked God to put on His armor, and take up His shield to prepare for battle, and come to David's aid. I believe this points to the time that Saul was looking for David to try and harm him. David was very afraid.
There are times when I am afraid of the enemy. The enemy is trying to destroy our country. And, even closer to home, our marriages, families or friendships. He can try to destroy the unity of our Church. But God gives us the Armor to fight the battle with. He gives us the belt of truth to buckle around our waist. He gives us the breastplate of righteousness. Our feet are fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, we are to take up the shield of faith. He tells us to add the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all of this in place it will be so much easier to defeat the enemy.
Ephesians 6:13-18 NIV Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
